Every chimpanzee taken from the wild leaves behind a family torn apart. Many young chimpanzees become victims of the illegal wildlife trade after their mothers are killed to capture them. Others lose their homes as forests disappear, forcing them into a world where survival becomes increasingly difficult. Behind every rescued chimpanzee is a story of fear, loss, and resilience.
On World Chimpanzee Day, we honor these incredible animals and renew our commitment to protecting them. Through Wild at Life’s Mission Caita in Angola, orphaned and trafficked chimpanzees are given a second chance. They receive expert veterinary care, nutritious food, a safe environment, and, most importantly, the opportunity to heal and rebuild the social bonds that are essential to their well-being.
Every rescue is more than saving a single life—it is protecting a species under threat and standing against the illegal wildlife trade that continues to endanger great apes across Africa. Together, we can ensure that chimpanzees are valued not as commodities, but as the intelligent, emotional beings they are.
